Hi, I’m Sam.
Founder of Convict Interiors.
Like many good things, CI began at home: my home.
A tiny heritage-listed worker’s cottage in Darlinghurst. Built by convicts in 1849, the building has a colourful past.
Its latest chapter started as a personal renovation project. Eventually it turned into my business.
the shift
That little terrace wasn’t just a renovation. It was a realisation that I could trust my eye, my instincts, and my experience to design spaces that feel.
Not showroom-perfect or soulless, but textured, layered, thoughtful.
When Real Living Magazine and Never Too Small featured the project, it gave me the nudge I needed to back myself. And Convict Interiors was born.
I live in inner-city Sydney with Taco, my handsome tuxedo cat.
My background blends leadership, ops, people and product. This varied experience is as important to my business as the taste level I bring. I know how to listen, solve, and deliver.
My process is shaped by human-centred design and product thinking: lead by purpose but always informed by form and soul.
Who I Am
My Design Ethos
I design with restraint, but not with fear.
I like when spaces to feel lived in, not just styled. I work with natural light, layout, history, and function. I believe in beauty that works hard, nostalgia that
doesn't try too hard, and design decisions that answer questions as to how we actually want to live.
Your home should reflect you. It should contain your habits, quirks, collections, chaos. It should feel good.
What to Expect
Whether it’s a full gut-and-rebuild or reworking a room to feel right, I collaborate closely with clients to understand how they want to live.
I balance mood with movement, materialisation with practicality, and always make space for character. No ego, no fluff. Just thoughtful design delivered with care.
